Another popular destination for Torontonians and beach goers are the Hanlan’s beaches. For those who are more free-spirited, enjoy the clothing-optional beach which stretches about 1km long. Both beaches can boast extremely good quality water and is monitored daily during the summer. Both meet Blue Flag standard set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. So feel free to go for a swim!
Gibraltar Point Lighthouse
Begun in 1808, Gibraltar Point Lighthouse is the oldest existing lighthouse on the Great Lakes and one of Toronto’s oldest buildings. Due to the mysterious demise of its first keeper, there are several spooky tales rumoured regarding the lighthouse. It is a must see piece of history located at the very back of Hanlan’s point.
Mermaid Café
Mermaid Café is a small licensed snack bar selling drink and snacks. Take a break from exploring the islands on their patio and whine down with some music, drinks and food. This is a good pit stop after Ned Hanlan’s Memorial.
Sports
Hanlan’s point is a great place to play sports! It has a baseball diamond, outdoor tennis court (lit up at night), volleyball nets and plenty of grassland for any other sport of your choosing.
